HD video output in Graphics Card? what for?

in the graphics card there is one black round called "HD video output." where do i plug it? this is not for PC monitors is it?



Thanks !!|||HD output is so that you can connect you HD compatible PC ( which i think your is) To an HDTV or A HD Monitor|||No it's for HD DVD palyback on a TV. The card usually comes with the cables for this.



I have never seen a 1280 X 768.



And the resolutions are usually 1360 or 1366 X 768 and larger screens are 1920 X 1080.



You will have to look in the TV manual and see what resolution is specified.|||The HD output is so you can run a high definition (HD) from your computer to your TV.

If do do decide to run a connection from your computer to your HD TV, remember to have your resolution settings set to 1280x768, or it could mess up your TV.



Some flat screen monitors have the dvi or hdmi (HD) type plug-ins now. but you should still have the option of using the standard monitor cable (VGA) for your computer to monitor connection.



1280X768 is the standard resolution of all HD TVs

Look in your HD TV manual and it will tell you to be sure to set the computer to TV resolution to no higher than 1280x768.

For older non HD TVs this is not an issue.

Can I use two video cards without CrossfireX or SLI?

Can two SLI video cards be used for 4 separate monitors to output 4 different screens and not one big screes?

I bought 4 monitors which I am putting on a Quad Monitor Mount (two monitors on top of 2). I want each screen to be separated from one another so that when i drag one window to the other screen and maximize it, it only take up the whole space of that particular screen only.



I bought 2 identical SLI video cards. I just learned that SLI allows systems to utilize the power of two identical video cards for a single output display. I think the single output display is not what I want. If that is the case, can these two SLI video cards be used as I mentioned? If so, how can I set it up? Just don't set them up in SLI configuration. Don't connect the SLI cable and do not configure SLI. They will then act as two separate video cards, each with no problem controlling two monitors.



I think, but I'm not sure, you can connect the SLI bridge but disable SLI. That will allow you to enable SLI (from the nVidia control panel) when you want to play heavy 3D games and get the extra power.

If you don't have a DVI/HDMI port on your laptop - you can only use the VGA output to display content on a TV etc - and only then, just the image.



DVI/HDMI supports both audio/video on the same cable; looks like you might have to update your laptop.

What Video Cards Support Triple Monitor Setup?

I'm building a system to support a triple monitor setup.



I notice many 5000 Series cards have 2x DVI + 1x MINI HDMI outputs.



Can I use all three simultaneously?|||Certain HD5000-series cards do support triple monitors, but you CANNOT use 2X DVI and 1X HDMI to drive triple monitors on the HD5000-series.



The third monitor MUST be connected to the DisplayPort jack on the graphics card for triple monitors to work. i.e. the third monitor NEEDS to have a DisplayPort input.



EDITED TO ADD:



To convert the DisplayPort jack to DVI or HDMI, you will need an Active dongle, and those things are NOT cheap. (We are talking $100+). It would be more economical to just make sure the third monitor you are buying has a DisplayPort jack.

Dual Video Output, each of both showing different software?

I need a setup whereby I have two monitors showing two different software simultaneously. Specifically, I need to work on a program (POS or Word or Excel), while the other video shows a powerpoint slideshow (or media program of some sort). What you can also do is hook up your hard drive to another pc, with that manner, the PC will not boot from your old hard drive, instead on his normal hard drive. Then u find the data, just transfer it to the other hard drive.



In a nutshell, connect old Hard drive to another pc, take the data out from it.|||You should be able to put your old hard drive on the new computer. Most of the time there is space and if not you can make space temporarily by unplugging a cd rom or something and plugging the old hard drive in place of that. And there is normally a button it lets you hit so you can boot from whichever device. :p

How do I use my tv or dvr with my computer and the s-video output port on my graphics card?

I have a geforce 5700 FX with DVI, VGA, and S-video output. The VGA output is currently being used for my monitor. I found an S-video cable and I thought I could connect it to my dvr, and hence my tv, but nothing happens when I do so.



do I need to enable the S-video output port with some software setting?|||Check your display settings, if it is capable you should be able to change it there (I am not familiar with this card). Also you can check with Nvidia for more support.

If all else fails a PC to TV convertor (like KWorld's) will convert the VGA signal so it can be viewed on your monitor and TV at the same time via S-video or RCA. Nifty gadget, I use one to put karaoke song lyrics running on my computer to the TV.|||First, our understanding for s-video output port on your graphic card is only a output.



Second, your TV or DVR must set to S-video mode in order to recevie input.

Spencer C.|||First of all, when you put in your 3rd party video card, you will have to disable your onboard for the 3rd party card to work. Only one will work at a time. So your answer would be that you would only have 2 slots rather than 3.



To check what slot you have for the videocard, just open the side of your computer up, and match your slot to any of the other ones. a quick google image or yahoo image of the slots would work.

The names of the slots are:

PCI

PCI express x16

AGP

AGP 4x/8x



PCI express 2.0 is the same as the x16. the only difference is that if your motherboard supports the 2.0, then 2.0 version videocards will run better. You will have to contact your motherboard manufacturer to tell if your motherboard supports PCI express 2.0.





Regarding disabling the original card, you MIGHT have to do it manually. Some motherboards do not automatically disable the onboard card to support the 3rd party card. All you have to do is when you restart your computer, once you see the boot screen, press the given code to access your BIOS. It is usually f10, or delete.|||Just from your question alone, I recommend not. Find someone who can look over your computer and use proper terminology. Maybe take it to best buy. I'd really hate for you to buy the wrong thing or install it wrong, just because you don't really sound like you are sure you know what you are talking about.|||Yes you can install a different video card and yes it will be your only video output. It will come with drivers that will tell the system that it is now the video output device.

Thanks|||It is fairly easy to find a cable on Ebay that has DVI and audio connectors on one end and HDMI on the other. This means any 512mb video card with a DVI output ( I'm probably sure you could find a cable with a VGA 15 pin connector instead) can be used in conjunction with the standard audio output of the computer to hook directly into the HDMI port of your HDTV. As far as 512 cards for PCI, they are out there. I found several on Ebay. Several from different vendors on a Google search. Should be do-able for most novice techies anyhow. Nice thing about a site like this is that they have a rating from other people so you can get an idea of how the cards perform from other people that have bought them. The first thing you want to do when installing or upgrading a video card is to make sure you have an adequate power supply. One with enough wattage. Most of the older computers came with pretty weak power supplies. I had a HP Pentium 3 years ago and I put a PCI card in it. Wasn't even that powerful a card. But the computer started shutting off. Turns out the power supply that came with the computer wasn't powerful enough to run with a graphics card in it. I put a more powerful power supply in with more wattage and it was fine after that.

This card has an s-video output for 29.99. Or, if you open up your computer an look at your motherboard, you can see whay slots you have. It will usually say on the motherboard, "pci express," or "pci." |||depending on your comp, you will need either an AGP card or a PCI Express card. They are all standard, so don't worry about the size. You will have to disable the onboard video that is built into the HP. Usually a BIOS switch, or just by pulling the card out if it's not integrated into the motherboard.

Help pls!|||First off, no, there is no way to port the video output to the USB port.



Second, if you plan on using the TV as a monitor and you use the RCA inputs, you'll wish you didn't. The resolution will be horrible. The RCA inputs are analog, and don't even support 640x480 resolution. Everything will be blurry.



Now, aside from that, yes there is a way to output the video to the TV from the video card. Adapters to do so go for about $50 retail.

Can someone recommend a video card? Need 3 display output.?

I need a PCI Express video card that can output to 3 displays simultaneously. My current card has 3 outputs but will only generate 2 video signals at once. The exact outputs don't matter, one will go to a 1080p TV, so hdmi would be good. The other 2 will go to monitors, so dvi would be preferred but VGA would work too.



My main priority is to be able to output 3 signals for as cheap as possible. Other stuff isn't as important, it's going in a 4 year old machine so performance isn't a huge priority, anything on the market now will exceed the other specs

a radeon 5670 could do the trick.



Radeon cards boast being able to hook up 3 monitors at the same time and can be used all for 1 game if you wish. But the 5670 has 2 HDMI and 1 DVI port on it.|||I'm with PJ on this one the radeon 5000 series is definitely worth it's way in gold. Can I run dual monitors on my PC with one video card that has VGA and DVI output?

I just bought a new monitor and I am trying to extend my desktop across them both. I currently have an ATI 9700 AGP gfx card and tried installing a second card (an old Voodoo3 PCI) and running each monitor on its own card. I am having trouble with that, so now I am just considering buying a new card (Leadtek WinFast A7600GT probably) in hopes that it will solve my problems.



I just want to make sure I can run the dual monitors off that new card if I do purchase it.



Or if anybody has any recommendations on making the cards that I have now work? Computer recognizes them both, sets the AGP ATI card as primary and works on one monitor. But whenever I go to settings in my display controls and try to enable the 2nd monitor on the voodoo3, my computer freezes and crashes.|||The 7600GT will have dual monitor support.





My guess is that the old drivers for the Vodoo 3 are causing the crash.

My video card is on, but monitor doesn't output?

I'm assembling a computer. My motherboard is an ASUS m4a77td and my video card is Asus-nvidia en9400gt.



I connected everything. I connected my LCD samsung monitor via the VGA connector. When i turn on the computer, i see that the video card fan is spinning, but my monitor does not give me a picture. The monitor is definitely on and works on other computers. Did I miss a step?|||Not sure, but jst because the fan spins doesn't necessarily mean the motherboard is 100% active. Wrong connections may cause it to stop working. See if the MB is POSTing|||First check your cable and connections.



I've had Samsung monitor did the same thing. It just wouldn't display.



I managed to work by updating the graphics driver to the latest version. Otherwise the monitor maybe dodgy. I've also returned one monitor and got a replacement.

Have you installed the drivers for this video card? If not, then there's your problem. Use the above link and click on the "Support" tab to get the latest driver.|||Power consumption under load for 6950 is 256W, so it might be borderline, but probably ok.|||Try extending computer out to the tv. Does vga work? Maybe you should install the ati controller or panel so you can have more control over the video card.|||Were you using integrated motherboard graphics prior to installing the HD 6950? If so, disable it in BIOS, because it's probably STILL set as your primary display output, and still outputting video.

i am considering a quad monitor display for real-time stock monitoring and trading....just wondering whether 2 non-workstation cards (ie. ati x1650 pro) can be used in sli for a quad display or do i need to get a workstation card such as the FireMV 2400???|||yes. Recommend two DVI video cards?

I have a GeForce FX 5700 Nvidia video card, two DVI output, 256mb of memory running on two 24 inch Dell monitors that support 90 degree rotation. The video card also supports this rotation. I want to upgrade the card, but it has to support rotation.|||Pretty much any decent video card these days can support portrait-display modes.



The trick is finding an AGP one, because most good video cards these days are PCI Express, not AGP. Since the FX5700 is an AGP card, I'm assuming you want an AGP card to replace it.

How can I make my motherboards onboard VGA output video even though my video card is installed?

I have learned that my video card only outputs 2 video signals, even though it has 2 DVI outputs and an Svideo. This is a problem because I like running two monitors (one for what I'm working on and one to have my email inbox up on, or music, or a video), and I just got a new TV. I would like to be able to stream videos from my computer to my TV, but am not willing to sacrifice running two monitors.



I did notice that my motherboard has a built in VGA output. Can I hook my second monitor up to that (doesn't need to be high quality or anything) and then hook my main monitor and TV up to my video card? I have it hooked up that way now and my main monitor and TV are working great, it's just the second monitor is not picking up a signal from the motherboard VGA out.



What should I do? Some settings I need to fiddle with? Any other solutions?

i have a gateway dx-4200 and it has a hdmi output. i just installed a new ati radeon 4550 and now my computer will not output on anything besides this graphics card. my computer comes with a ati 3200 that is embedded i think... i want to use my hdmi outputs how do i get my computer to recognize both things?|||your stuffed.. take the new card out..|||you don't... when you install a graphics card of any kind it is designed to override the on-board video completely, This is part of the mother board design and it doesn't matter if its a custom build or not... its been this way ever the invention of pci type video cards for the purpose of preventing both too much power being drawn and the risk of a surge to the PC... along with making things look that much better. In video non linear editing - is the video capture card supposed to output also the edited sequence .?

I am using a professional video capture card but it wont output the edited sequence so I can record it in a professional video recorder when I render. i just finished building my computer and everything seems to start up fine but i am getting no video output also my fan on my videocard is coming on i also tried the onboard video with the card disconnected so...any ideas?|||In general, as a 'safety' feature, a computer will not display a graphics output if something is not connected correctly.



Check your connections (a favourite with the older style IDE connection for hard drives or floppy drives was people connecting them upside down.



Go over each of the connections, check your RAM is inserted correctly, and the same with any expansion cards. Having attached the heatsink to the processor you don't want to remove it if you can help it. Also check under the motherboard for any possibility of short circuiting (ie a mounting post that does not match up with a mounting hole in your motherboard).



What you may have to do is remove all components and connectors except the CPU and RAM and start again, connecting one item at a time.



If when you have just the CPU and RAM connected (and of course the monitor) if you are still not getting a signal, you may have to remove the CPU heatsink and check that the CPU is seated correctly. If you do remove the heatsink you will have to clean the heat transfer paste from both the CPU and the heatsink (be very careful with this, there are many guides on the Internet for how to do this safely and I can't take responsibility for your actions with your equipment), then apply new heat transfer paste. You should never re-use the paste that is on the heatsink as you will not get a good transfer again and you MUST NEVER run the computer without heat transfer paste between the CPU and the heatsink.

S-video output from video card to TV (monitor is widescreen but TV isn't!)?

I'm using an nVidia card (FX5200 I believe) with S-Video output, with a converter to RCA plugged into a VCR. The problem is that the computer monitor is a widescreen (native resolution 1440x900), and I have it set up so both monitor and TV show the same thing (except when videos are playing on the monitor, it shows up full screen on the TV). But since the display is widescreen on both, there's a panning going on on the TV, where it can't show the entire desktop display all at once. Is there any way to force it to stretch width-wise or force letterboxes on the TV display? Can't find anything relevant in the nVidia control panel. A TV is limited to 1024x768 resolution with S-video. There is no way you can force it to display 1440x900 through S-video because 1) the S-video connection can't handle it, and 2) your TV probably can't handle it either if it's an old CRT set.



If you have a newer HDTV with HDMI or VGA ports, those are MUCH BETTER than S-Video for connecting to a computer, especially HDMI (which can be connected to a video card's DVI port with a DVI-to-HDMI cable, and can go all the way up to 1920x1080 as long as the TV can handle it).

Dave|||You have to check the manufactures website regarding the capabilities of your video card. When using the TV output most video cards do not allow simultaneous use of the monitor. A lot of high-end video cards will.|||That's just the way the video card works, you can't run a fullscreen video on the TV and a fullscreen game on your monitor - just the nature of the beast.

You could try checking your PC's BIOS to make sure it recognizes your video card still.. you could try reseating the card with the pawer off... you could also try resetting BIOD entirely by removing the PC battery (if it is removable) and waiting a bit... and hopefully everything is reset like new -|||How are you so sure it is not the cable at fault? Even if you used it successfully several times in the past does not mean it did not go bad since then. Try a new cable first, you can always return it if it is not the problem, just keep the receipt.



Make sure the cable is firmly pressed into the slots on both the monitor and the computer tower. Sometimes it seems fully pressed in but it is not.

The is a Xfx 7600 GT HDMI special edition. if you want to have like a monitor and a big screen showing what your monitor is showing then you can get a dongle, or a new video card. most newer ones support more than a single output.

But, If you want to have your moniter to work on and a tv to watch a movie on off your pc than you're gonna either need to buy an expensive video card to replace yours, or buy a pci video card for cheap and take out your AGP video card. having just a pci video card in shoudn't shut down your integrated one on your Mobo (i like that).

But as someone already stated, this could eat up more of your cpu. well i shouldn't say "could", it will.|||Sounds like your powersupply doesn't have enough oomph to run the card and the rest of the computer, check the instruction manual and documentation that came with the card. I 'think' the reason why the VGA from the comp GPU shuts down is because the comp is sensing the AGP card and shutting down the internal GPU system since it is rather inefficient, and some are really using the CPU power.|||That depends. What type of computer is it? More specifically what kind of motherboard is it? Depending on the card, you can run a dual moniter setup with only one video card but without knowing what kind of processing power you've got and what kind of motherboard you have there is no way to know if your sytem is capable of running a dual montier setup. Also, I'm sure you know this but make sure you're plugging the moniter into the video card directly as opposed to the integrated vid off the mobo. One last thing, if you want to run dual moniters off of one card you will need to get a dongle. It's like a Y where the bottom goes into your video card and the top part that splits go into your two moniter cables.|||The motherboard would be unable to determine which video adapter to send video signals if there are 2 active video adapters.



When the motherboard senses a video card in the AGP slot, it automatically disables the built-in video adapter since the video card in the AGP slot would most probably be the better and more capable video adapter.



Having 2 active video adapter would also place a heavy processing load on the motherboard as the video signals may be unbalanced due to the video adapters' different capabilities. Although video processing is handled by chip on video adapters, the motherboard still has to transfer signals to and from different components.



For dual monitor display, a video card that can output to 2 monitors is required.|||Most new agp cards are dual head and have software that allow you to use both, Radeon are good, but you may need an adaptor for one of the sockets|||definitely not, but u can use videocards with dual outputs, which have 2 VGA or 1 VGA & 1 Composite outputs...

Level of video card required for HDMI output to LCD TV?

I know this question has been asked in various forms but I need to pose it more specifically for my use. I already output to my LCD TV with no problem. I'm putting together a HTPC. As far as video I want the best chance of watching online TV such as HULU in flawless fullscreen (as Possible) and other HD streaming video from say Quicktime. I know 3d specs are not important but what is? GPU? Memory? What specs are most important for what I want to do with the card. I would spend $200.00 if it improves quality but it seems you're spending more money for 3D performance not 2D i.E. online video. Am I correct in saying most current HD cards are about the same for my uses?

What does "overclocked" mean when talking about video cards?

I have been shopping for a video card for my Dell 531s slim Desktop so I can run dual monitors. I am not a gamer. I keep seeing the term "overclocked"...what does this mean? In layman's terms please.

That's the "clock speed" of the processor.



Like right now, my computer is running on a 3 Ghz processor.



Basically, overclocking is making the something run at a higher "clock speed" than it's supposed to. I could set my computer to run at 3.15 Ghz if I wanted to and see some slight performance increase.



A video card is the same thing, it's also a processor. Overclocking it is basically making it run at a faster speed than it was originally designed for, so that it gets better performance.



That's all there it to it really.



Perhaps another thing I should mention. The only drawback to doing this is that it produces more heat. But an overclocked video card will usually come equipped with a bigger fan to compensate for it.|||Overlocking means running a graphics card, processor or RAM at higher frequency than intended. This almost always void warrantry's and for large overclocks you need a special cooler to stop it from overheating (its dangerous if you do not know what you are doing).



For example if I have a core i7 920 processor, which runs at 2.66GHz normally, and I overclock it to 2.8 GHz, i did an overclock of 140 MHz. The processor will now run faster so calculate data faster, but also produce more heat.



The same can be done with graphics cards but these are more risky (coolers are usually very bad). You can overclock the Memory speed (sort of RAM for the video card), the core speed (like the processor in the video card) and the shader speed.



Hope i helped!|||In layman's terms overclocking means increasing the speed of the device. When you see overclocked graphics cards for sale, that just means the manufacturer decided to do that. So your warranty will not be void because of this.

Why doesn't my new graphics card output video?

I just built a new computer and have a 2gig graphics card. I believe it's the Radeon 6950 HD model. I have been using an HDTV as my monitor for the last couple of weeks until I got a regular monitor for Xmas. I had an hdmi cable from my motherboard slot plugged into the tv. Well now this monitor I got doesn't have hdmi so I have to use either VGA or DVI. I plugged dvi into my graphics card slot as my motherboard doesn't have dvi option and the monitor just says no signal input, going to sleep. I have no clue what is going on. I installed the drivers that came with the monitor and got nothing. My graphics card drivers are also up to date. Please don't tell me that my graphics card is bad because that is not the case. It's brand new and runs video games just fine. It's just the video output seems to be disabled or something. Thanks in advance for any help|||The monitor may have a switch for choosing what input to use. Push it and select the DVI input.



Go into CMOS and check if there's a setting to choose between onboard video or video from an add on card. If your computer is set to use onboard video this may explain what you're seeing.



If your card requires an auxiliary power input verify this cable is plugged in and verify your power supply is big enough to supply the card.

Video card trouble, NVIDIA GeForce 9600GSO, no video output. need guidance/suggestions to fix.?

Small problem, was wondering if the wizards could help...



My brothers metal port covers came loose from the case and fell onto the videocard, so i fished them out with a paperclip. It was very easy to do but there was a small spark in the process. Now there is no video output from the board, but the monitor does recognize when you plug it in because the colour test bars disappear.



Would any one mind providing me with possible trouble shooting tips to repair this situation?



I kinda doubt that 1 spark could fry an entire board.



I've tried both video ports on the card, theres actually two geforce 9800s in the motherboard and all 4 ports are not displaying anything.



I tried it with another monitor too, tested that monitor as good using the same cord with another computer.



I have not tried another DVI to RGB adapter because i dont have one but i will try to pick another one up at radio shack when i can, but i feel doubtful thats the problem.



The computer boots fine and everything- all that happened was 1 tiny spark, and i know sparks this one was small.

I'm afraid you're outta luck this time. If your lucky, the computer was off when this occurred. Otherwise, your entire motherboard plus the dual 9800s could all be fried. Do yourself a favor and pick up a $10 anti-static wristband, or simply tap the power supply to ground yourself before trying this the next time.|||One tiny spark can easily fry a board.

Video Card output contacts are bent?

When I was switching around the placements of my NIC, Video Card, and Wireless Access card on my desktop, I had a little trouble figuring out how to unscrew one of the things connecting the monitor to the video card. I pulled it too early, and one half didn't pull out. So after I unscrewed it and pulled out the entire thing, one of the contacts was messed up on the video card output. Now when I boot it shows the Dell loading screen... a black page with the blinking white bar (much like the command center).... and then the Windows loading screen. After that It just goes black but I can hear my computer running. Is there anyway to fix this? Buying another video card isn't really an option right now...|||i agree with the other reply if you can see some things you should be able to see them all unless your video card isn't exactly the problem... but it sounds like you had your case opened for something, did you make any other changes (sometimes swapping which pci slot different addin cards are in can confuse the computer because sometimes the drivers are installed with a specific port so reinstalling the drivers or clearing cmos might help) if so you might want to try to undo those and see if that fixes it. also you mentioned that the pins where bent but on a video card the outputs don't have pins (there female connectors) so im going to assume you where talking about the cable going to the monitor, if so you should replace the cable and see if that helps... you can get them at radioshack, frys, bestbuy, and most other electronics stores for about 5 to $15... hope this helps|||Confused here... what are you saying? If you can see the Dell logo, and the windows loading screen then it sounds like your display is working fine... ?|||to me it dosent sound like a problem with the video card, it sounds like you may have not shut down your computer properly, next time you start you pc, start rapidly pressing the F8 key as soon as the dell logo disappears, if your timing is right this will give you a black screen with white text, it is the boot options screen for windows. use the arrow keys to highlight an option that say use last good known good configuration. see if that helps|||Buying a new graphics card is your best option. Trying to repair the graphics takes a tech, and that would cost more than a new card.

If you have a crappy computer you will need a better video card. Get any GeForce, ATI, or any other newer 3d video card and you will have all the imputs you need. Installing them into your computer is a breeze. Just go to any BestBuy or other electronics store and they will have them and tell you what you need to do.

The S-video output from most graphics cards is not very good. Then the driver can behave very oddly. With some cards using a high display resolution setting makes the S-video out look worse. Drop it to a standard TV resolution if it supports it such as 720x480 or try 800x600. Options are getting a video card with a better TV output, using a big TV that supports VGA or DVI as an input (many do), or getting a video card with HDMI out into a TV that supports it. Another option is a VGA to component video converter box. i am going to buy a new pc. i have a TV with a hdmi port on it and a spare hdmi cable.

on the back of the video card there is a hdmi port.



If i connected that to the hdmi port on the tv will th sound output through the tv speakers or will i need to buy some speakers.

If the card does output sound then your TV will play the sound from its speakers.
